The Item Name Code (INC) is a five-digit number assigned by the Defense Logistics Service (DLS), which identifies each name in the NATO Codification System. Each non-approved item name is assigned code 77777.
When you click INC in the FLIS Header (Segment A) in Haystack, a window opens with the Definition for INC and a list of valid codes with brief descriptions of each.
When you click a value for an item under the INC heading, the link takes you to a government Defense Logistics Agency (DLA) site with extensive, very detailed information related to the item. The information at this site consists of Item Identification Guides (IIGs). (At present, the government is retiring FIIG codes and using IIG codes as replacement.) For information about the drawings you can access in the IIGs, review the topic Drawings in the FLIS Database.
