Electronic Components
Search for electronic components in Parts Intelligence and view details about the part. For customers who subscribe to both Haystack Gold and the S&P Global electronic component research and bill of materials management solutions – Parts Intelligence and BOM Intelligence – links are available from Haystack Gold to component information found in the S&P Global Reference Database.
Comprised of over 700 million electronic, electro-mechanical, and fastener records from leading manufacturers worldwide, the S&P Global Reference Database provides access to detailed technical attributes and documentation, lead-free alternates, lifecycle forecasts, and current availability and pricing information, environmental, import/export, country of origin, conflict minerals data, and more.
If you do not subscribe to Parts Intelligence or BOM Intelligence, Haystack Gold takes you to the marketing window for those products where you have the opportunity to subscribe.

- Click Database > Electronic Components.
The Parts Intelligence / BOM Intelligence Electronic Components Search window opens. - Type a Part Number
A 32-character field containing the part number assigned by the manufacturer. In some cases, the part number field is used to identify a drawing, or the source or specification controlling number of the item identified by the National Stock Number (NSN). Part Number is also known as the Reference Number., Description, Company Name, or CAGE
Commercial Activity Government Entity - listings of firms that manufacture or distribute items procured by the U.S. Government; also known as the Federal Supply Code for Manufacturers. The following are the types of activities and documents that are assigned CAGE Codes: Manufacturers; Vendors; Government agencies who manufacture an item of supply; Government agencies that control the development of government specifications and/or standards; Government specifications or standards when no single government source can be identified; NATO manufacturers. Code, and then click Search.

A wildcard is appended to your search term, to return exact matches, as well as variants of the search term.
Be sure to click Reset whenever you begin a new search to clear the search fields and values so nothing from a previous search interferes with a new search.
Haystack Gold returns the search results on the Parts Intelligence / BOM Intelligence Electronic Components Results window.
- Click the View Details link for one of the parts to open the Parts Details window in Parts Intelligence / BOM Intelligence.
- In the Parts Intelligence / BOM Intelligence Results window, click Manufacturer in the left navigation pane to view information about the manufacturer.
The ESP window opens. - In the Parts Intelligence / BOM Intelligence Electronic Components Results window, click a Part Number link on the results window to go to a Multi-Database Search Results window in Super Search and find a list of databases in Haystack Gold that contain the part.
The number of records for the part found in each database appears on the right of the window. In addition, there is an icon and link for ISOInternational Organization for Standardization. Group that opens a Submit RFQ
Request For Quote (Government Solicitations) window.
- Using the Multi-Database Search Results for Part Number... window, click the link for the records of one of the databases.
Haystack Gold opens a result window for the database that lists each record. You have further opportunities to drill down to more detailed information by either clicking the View Details link or the NIINNational Item Identification Number - nine-digit number assigned to a part under the Federal Cataloging Program. It is the last nine digits of the National Stock Number. link.

- Complete an FLIS/TIR
Federal Logistic Information System - data is the Federal Supply Catalog, which is comprised of the following databases in Haystack: FLIS (Parts 1, 2, 3); the Management List - Consolidated (ML-C); the Federal Supply Classifications Handbooks (H-2); the Federal Item Name Directory (H-6); the Commercial Activity Government Entity Handbook (CAGE); the Characteristics Data (V-Segment); the Interchangeability / Substitutability Data; and the Major Organizational Entity Rules (MOE) databases. search, and then click Electronic Component (
) in the row that contains the desired item.

National Stock Number - a 13-digit number assigned to a part under the Federal Cataloging Program. The first four digits of the NSN are the Federal Supply Class (FSC) of the part. The last nine digits are the National Item Identification Number (NIIN) of the part. record.
The window presents summary information about the part number, manufacturer name, part status, and category in the blue header. The left-hand side provides links to information found for the component. Clicking a link presents part information in a table on the right-hand side of the window. If there are sub-sections, such as with Documents, Alerts, and Environmental/Material data the section expands to provide access to the sub-sections available. Additional functionality includes the ability to export the information in the window to Excel, as well as to print the information.
Links presented in the table on the right-hand side provide access to a wide variety of related content, or in the case of alternate part numbers, perform a query and retrieve information for the selected part. For example, clicking on links in the Part Documents tab provides access to datasheets for the part being viewed, opened in a new tab.
